For those not in the know, I’m a big BJJ nerd. I came in for self defense and I stayed for the fun, the fitness and the lack boredom in the quest to sweat.
Girls in Gis is an organization established in 2009 to help women ease their presence in to the the Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a predominately male martial arts community. The average woman would not want to roll around on the floor with a sweaty dude, so that’s where GiG comes in.
They have female ambassadors in multiple states and metropolitan cities, cultivate donation only events and are cool chicks that understand the multiple benefits BJJ has for women willing to take the first step and give it a try.
My articles will span between fun, cheeky blurbs to in depth articles about healing from the shame of my sexual assault, the impact of race and my confidence while training and being a woman, who does not fit the body norm, learning to embrace femininity that I never thought I had. All good stuff that is from the perspective of an older black woman.
So follow along for the next few months. Let me know your thoughts about topics and thank you for reading.
